Optimum Temperature Storage for Vaccines

Improve the integrity of the vaccine cold chain to improve vaccine handling capabilities

Most vaccines must be kept cold, between +2 °C and +8 °C (+35 °F and +46 °F), while in storage and during the shipping process. Any temperature fluctuation outside of this range can cause damage. Freezing temperatures below this level can not only cause irreversible damage to the vaccine ingredients, but also damage to the containers in which the vaccines are packaged. Likewise, high temperatures can also accelerate the vaccine’s degradation, leading to a loss of potency. For these reasons, a chain of custody distribution process known as the “cold chain” exists.
