Saliva samples versus blood samples
There should be no argument that most people would prefer non-invasive, fast, and easy sample collection over painful, inconvenient, and potentially hazardous blood draw. However, blood collection is generally considered the gold standard; and processes for collection have long been established in hospitals, clinics, and labs worldwide.
We know blood collection will always be necessary in health care procedures, as blood contains some biomarkers, such as proteins and antibodies, which may not be present in saliva. In cases where the purpose of collection is strictly for genomic DNA analysis, it can be debated that saliva is the better way to collect DNA.
